Job Title: Civil Litigation Attorney
Location: Remote with the exception of Court/Client Appointments
Position Type: Contract (Initial 6 Months), Potential for Full-Time
Reports To: Managing Attorney

Job Summary:
Our Houston-based law firm is seeking a skilled and motivated Civil Litigation Attorney for an initial six-month contract, with the potential for full-time employment based on performance. The successful candidate will handle a diverse caseload of civil litigation matters from inception through resolution. Under the supervision of the Managing Attorney, the attorney will provide zealous advocacy in a variety of disputes, including commercial litigation, personal injury defense, real estate, and contract-related matters.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate new case files and consult with clients to assess case strengths, weaknesses, and legal strategies.
  • Handle all phases of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, depositions, hearings, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, and other legal documents in compliance with Texas Rules of Civil Procedure.
  • Represent clients in state and federal courts in the Houston area, including at mediations, pretrial conferences, and trials.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and experts.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda on case law, statutes, and other issues relevant to litigation strategy.
  • Keep the Managing Attorney informed of case developments and strategic decisions.
  • Maintain organized case files and detailed billing records in accordance with firm policies.
  • Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and ethical conduct.
  • Remain current on changes in Texas civil law and local court procedures, particularly within Harris County and surrounding counties.
  • Maintain a professional online presence consistent with the firm’s core values, mission, and image.
Qualifications:
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
Licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas
Licensed in the Southern District of Federal Court (strongly preferred)
Experience:
Minimum of 6 years of civil litigation experience, preferably in a law firm setting
Preferred SkillsDetails
KnowledgeTexas Rules of Civil Procedure and local rules in Harris County
ExperienceDrafting and arguing dispositive motions, handling depositions, trying cases
