Job summary

Thompson Construction Group, Inc. in Georgetown, SC seeks an experienced carpenter to construct, erect, install and repair wooden structures per sketches and blueprints. You will lead a small crew, ensure time sheets are accurate, and report to the Craft Foreman while maintaining safety and quality.

The role requires reading blueprints, measuring accurately, and using carpentry tools. A strong work ethic is essential; 40+ hours weekly with potential weekend shifts and a focus on safety and

Qualifications

  • Preferred 3 years’ construction experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively.
  • Work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments.
  • 40 or more hours per week with possible weekend work.
  • Background check and drug screen based on job location/requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Examine blueprints and specifications to determine dimensions of structure.
  • Measure boards, timbers, or plywood, using square, measuring tape, and ruler.
  • Saw boards and plywood panels to required sizes.
  • Use carpentry hand tools such as hammers, levels, squares, screw drivers, adjustable wrenches, hand and power saws, drill motors and pry bars.
  • Nail cleats across boards to construct concrete-supporting forms.
  • Brace forms in place with timbers, tie rods, and anchor bolts for use in building concrete piers, footings, and walls.
  • Erect chutes for placing concrete.
  • Cut and assemble timbers to build trestles and cofferdams.
  • Erect scaffolding for buildings and other structures and install ladders, handrails, walkways, platforms, and gangways.
  • May install door and window bucks in designated positions in building framework including masonry walls.
  • Fit and nail sheathing on outer walls and roofs of buildings.
  • Set and brace anchor bolts.
  • May rig materials.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Position Description

Constructs, erects, installs and repairs structures and fixtures of wooden structures, such as concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports, and temporary frame shelters, according to sketches, blueprints, or oral instructions. These duties are to be performed in a safe and timely manner with the highest quality possible. Leads a small crew under the direction of the Craft Foreman insuring time sheets are accurate and reported in a timely manner. Solves problems within his/her crew and acts on behalf of the Craft Foreman in his/her absence.

  • Brace forms in place with timbers, tie rods, and anchor bolts for use in building concrete piers, footings, and walls.

  • Erect scaffolding for buildings and other structures and install ladders, handrails, walkways, platforms, and gangways.
