Job Description: Civil/Highway Designer

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the design and development of highway, roadway, bridge, interchange, and drainage projects within H&H’s New Haven, CT office. The successful candidate will assist in transforming conceptual designs into contract plans, specifications, and construction estimates. Responsibilities include:

1. Design Assistance: Assisting in the design of highway, roadway, bridge, interchange, and drainage projects, ensuring designs are compliant with ADA standards (including sidewalks, shared-use paths, and curb ramps).
2. Traffic Planning: Assisting in the design and production of traffic control and staging plans, as well as traffic signing and striping plans.
3. Technical Documentation: Contributing to the creation of engineering reports and other technical documents.
4. Field Work: Participating in occasional field visits and meetings for data gathering or construction inspection assistance.
5. Modeling: Creating 2D and 3D design models using software such as AutoCAD, OpenRoads, and AutoTurn.
6. Collaboration: Working with H&H offices across the country to deliver projects effectively.

Requirements:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
2. EIT certification (preferred)
3. Prior internship experience (preferred)
4. Zero to three years of experience
5. MicroStation V8i and Bentley OpenRoads experience (preferred)
6. Experience with CTDOT and/or the CTDOT Highway Design Manual (preferred)
7. Strong math skills
8. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
9. Excellent communication and teamwork skills
