Klohn Crippen Berger in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Civil/Geotechnical Engineering student co-op to apply critical thinking to mine waste and tailings dam projects. You will join our Mining Environmental Group based in Phoenix and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers from concept through construction.

You'll split time between field and office, participating in site investigations, data analysis and design support, with mentors guiding your growth.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in civil, geotechnical, or geological engineering.
  • Some field experience related to drilling and/or construction monitoring.
  • Eligible to register as engineer-in-training (EIT) in your jurisdiction.
  • Exposure to slope stability, seepage analysis, and dam design is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work on a variety of projects including site characterization, slope stability, numerical modeling, foundation design, tailings dam design.
  • Visit project sites to gather information and support data review, drilling programs, core logging and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams from concept to construction.
  • Receive mentorship from industry leaders within a supportive culture.
  • Travel to project sites within Canada and internationally.

What You Would Engage In

Our focus is on the application of critical thinking to the management of mine waste and tailings dams. If continuing your career journey with us, you would be part of our Mining Environmental Group based out of our Phoenix, AZ office. The role of Civil/ Geotechnical Engineering student may come with the opportunity to:

  • Work on a variety of projects that may include site characterization, slope stability, numerical modeling, foundation design, tailings dam design, hydro dams, embankment dams and earthworks design.
  • Visit project sites, gathering information as required to complement design activities and get involved in site investigation and drilling programs, core logging, lab testing, instrumentation installations and monitoring, as well as data review and analysis.
  • Work with diverse teams of multi-discipline engineers and designers from conceptual design through to construction.
  • Receive ongoing guidance and mentorship from leaders in the industry in a supportive, dynamic company culture that supports career development.
  • Travel to various project sites within Canada and internationally.
What We Require

We respect the knowledge and experience you have gained to date and are willing to help you build on it. We do, however, require the following qualifications:

  • Working on a degree in civil, geotechnical, or geological engineering, with a desire for continued development
  • Some field experience related to drilling and/or construction monitoring
  • You must be eligible to register as professional engineer-in-training in British Columbia
  • Exposure to slope stability and seepage analysis; dam design; earthworks and construction is ideal
  • An ability to build relationships with multidisciplinary project-based teams
