Job summary

GEI is seeking a mid-level geotechnical engineer to join our Geotechnical Engineering Group in the West Region, with offices in Sacramento, Oakland, Bakersfield, Pasadena, Carlsbad and Portland. The role features a hybrid work environment with options from 2 days in office to full-time in office, and includes a field component with travel.

The candidate will support dams, levees and hydropower projects, lead technical scopes, budgets, and reports, and participate in client engagement and staff

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• MS degree preferred.
• 3+ years in geotechnical engineering; PM experience incl. proposals and budgeting; knowledge of state and federal regulations; business development.

Responsibilities

• Lead geotechnical projects including design and remediation for dams, levees, and hydropower facilities.
• Prepare technical scopes of work, budgets, RFQs, and technical reports.
• Provide effective leadership in proposal teams and presentations.
• Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary, multi-geographic project teams.
• Travel for field tasks and overnight stays as required.

Description Your role at GEI. We are seeking a mid-level geotechnical engineer to join our vibrant Geotechnical Engineering Group in the West Region. The chosen candidate will be an active partner in supporting our profitable and growing Dams, Levees, and Hydropower engineering practice. Other project work could include projects such as institutional, residential, and commercial buildings, transit-oriented development, waterfront, contractor support, and transportation. Job Locations This position is available in our Sacramento, Oakland, Bakersfield, Pasadena, Carlsbad and Portland offices. Job Flexibility GEI is instituting a hybrid workplace environment, which allows workers to choose from a range of options allowing a combination of work from home and in the office. This can range from working in the office a minimum of 2-days a week, or electing to work the full 5-days in the office. This allows for a forward-looking flexible work environment in our office of the future. Essential Responsibilities & Duties

• Project manager and technical lead for geotechnical engineering projects and tasks including evaluation, design and remediation of dams, levees and hydropower facilities; geotechnical instrumentation; geotechnical investigations and design for major water infrastructure including conveyance (pipelines, canals, penstocks, pump stations, and tunnels), bridge, and waterfront facilities.
• Prepare technical scopes of work for proposals and projects, project budgets, requests for proposals for contractors, and technical reports.
• Provide effective and leadership role in proposal teams and presentations.
• Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary, multi-geographic project teams.
• Maintain high visibility in the marketplace through regular client contact, participation in client-based professional organizations, and attendance and presentations at industry events.

• Assist in recruiting and training additional staff.
• This position has a field component; travel and some overnight travel is required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum of B.S. degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• M.S. preferred.
• 3+ years of previous professional experience in geotechnical engineering; Project Management experience, including proposal preparation and budgeting support; thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations; business development skills.
• Willingness and ability to travel on short-term assignments as needed.
• Willingness and ability to perform field tasks and oversight.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license.
• Professional Engineering license required.
