Job summary

J.C. Wilkie Construction in Lexington, SC, is seeking a Civil Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates for earthwork, drainage, sanitary, water, and roadway work.

You will review plans, specs, schedules, and subcontractor quotes, work with PMs and field staff, and help secure profitable projects. The role is office-based with occasional site visits; strong Excel and takeoff skills are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred.
• 3+ years estimating experience in civil/construction.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specs, contracts.
• Experience with quantity takeoffs and detailed estimates.
• Proficiency with Excel and MS Office.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Review project plans, specs, geotechnical reports, permitting requirements, and bid documents.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, drainage, paving, and site work.
• Develop detailed cost estimates including labor, equipment, materials, and overhead.
• Solicit and compare subcontractor and supplier quotes.
• Prepare bid proposals and estimate summaries.
• Analyze project risks, opportunities, and constructability concerns.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Operations personnel to develop estimating strategies.
• Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving alternatives.
• Maintain estimating databases, production rates, labor costs, equipment costs, and vendor pricing.
• Prepare bid clarifications, qualifications, exclusions, and scope reviews.
• Assist with contract negotiations and project handoff activities following project award.
• Review historical project cost data to improve estimate accuracy.
• Maintain organized records of estimates, bid documents, and supporting calculations.
• Stay informed on market trends, material pricing, labor availability, and industry developments.
• Participate in project turnover meetings with operations personnel.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
