Qualifications

  • BS/degree preferred in Construction Management, Engineering or related field.
  • 3–5 years estimating or equivalent construction experience preferred.
  • Experience estimating civil scopes for utility-scale solar or site development preferred.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel; familiarity with estimation software a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specs, and contract documents.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills; travel about 30%.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with estimators, PMs, and field personnel in a team environment.
  • Participate in site walks, pre-bid meetings, and data collection.

Overview

Herzog Energy, Inc. is currently seeking a Civil Estimator in the United States to join our team.

This role is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, scopes, and proposals for public and private utility-scale solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, supporting competitive bids and negotiated work.

Duties and Responsibilities

*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.

  • Work in a team environment and collaborate with other estimators, project managers, and construction personnel.
  • Participate in job walks, pre-bid meetings, and site visits to gather project-specific information.
  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and requirements to develop accurate and competitive estimates for solar civil construction activities.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for civil components including grading, excavation, drainage systems, access roads, foundations, underground utilities, and site improvements.
  • Develop cost breakdowns and pricing models using historical data, supplier quotes, subcontractor proposals, and production rates.
  • Support value engineering efforts and constructability reviews during the estimating and preconstruction process.
  • Assist with estimate reviews, bid preparation, and project handoff activities.
  • Estimate close-out
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog's Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four-year degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years estimating or equivalent construction experience preferred.
  • Experience estimating civil scopes for utility-scale solar, renewable energy, heavy civil, or site development projects preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, HCSS HeavyBid, or similar estimating software is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Communicate professionally to all parties both orally and in writing.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Must work well in a team environment.
  • Approximately 30% travel required.
Pre-Employment Requirements
  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
Physical Requirements
  • Work primarily in an office environment.
  • Frequently sits for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently use a computer keyboard and office related equipment.
  • Requires occasional standing, walking, lifting, stooping or bending.
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
