You will assist with engineering analysis, design, field inspections, permit applications, and site drainage while collaborating with cross‑functional teams to meet project goals. This role offers growth within municipal, university, and utility markets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and ability to complete AutoCAD training sessions quickly.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Willingness to travel up to 5%.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic engineering calculations and assist in design of water and sewer systems for municipal and private projects.
  • Assist with grading, stormwater design, and site drainage for various site plans.
  • Prepare reports, permit applications, and support client communications.
  • Contribute to project planning, scheduling, and cross‑functional collaboration to meet deadlines.

This entry-level role offers hands‑on design, analysis, and project execution experience, with mentorship, training, and opportunities to grow your expertise from day one. You will work closely with experienced engineers and consultants to support engineering solutions and advice that help deliver positive outcomes for clients. In this role, you will assist with engineering analysis, design, field inspections, report writing, permit applications, and site drainage and grading designs while working within project budgets and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. You will support work across municipal, university, and utility markets while contributing to resilient, environmentally responsible infrastructure.

What You'll Do

Perform basic calculations on assigned work, including hydraulic calculations, traffic projections, piling or rebar calculations, and site earthwork balancing. Assist in the design of water and sewer systems for smaller private and larger municipal systems. Assist with grading and stormwater designs for commercial, industrial, and residential site plans. Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively. Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication. Work as part of a project team to support consulting projects, including project planning and scheduling tasks to meet deadlines and objectives. Assist with documenting design decisions and client instructions while monitoring project design progress. Analyze low to medium complexity engineering tasks and propose innovative solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultants. Participate in IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements. Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in civil engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG. Prioritize safety and regulatory compliance in all aspects of engineering work, and interpret and apply state and local design criteria to project needs. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.

What You'll Bring

Education Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required Experience Required Skills/Abilities Basic skills or knowledge with AutoCAD Civil 3D software and the ability to complete AutoCAD training sessions as quickly as possible Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Attention to detail and problem-solving skills Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook Ability to travel up to 5% with occasional overnight stays Preferred Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred Engineer in Training (EIT) License preferred
