Job summary

LJA Transportation seeks a Civil Engineering Intern to join our collaborative team in San Antonio for a hands-on summer experience. You will work under guidance on real projects, shadow operations, and gain exposure to the full project lifecycle.

This internship runs mid-May through early August, is in-person, Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week, with mentorship, training, and opportunities to participate in client-facing activities and volunteer events.

Qualifications

• Completed at least one year of college; pursuing a BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
• Strong work ethic and highly motivated student.
• Good organizational and communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with ability to identify discrepancies.
• Collaborate well in a team; proficient in MS Excel.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering assignments with direction from experienced engineers.

WHAT THE LJA INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE HAS TO OFFER

Our Summer Internship Program runs from mid-May through the first week of August and is a fully in-person experience, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. As an LJA intern, you'll gain hands‑on experience working alongside experienced professionals and contributing to real‑world projects. A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:

• Perform engineering assignments with direction from experienced engineers
• Spend time shadowing actual operations and learn about project phases
• Will have unique assignments that support larger projects as well as experience the day‑to‑day workings of engineering

REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:

• Candidates must have completed at least one year of college and pursuing a Bachelor of Science, Civil or Environmental Engineering is required.

IDEALLY, YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE:

• Great work‑ethic and are highly motivated student with a strong academic performance
• Have sincere desire to gain experience in and knowledge of the company and industry
• Good organizational and communication (oral and written) skills
• Focused and attention to detail with ability to identify discrepancies
• Collaborate and work well in a team environment
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially MS Excel
