Job summary

Waukesha County DPW Engineering seeks two engineering interns for the summer to assist in the design, construction, and operation of the highway system. You will gain broad experience across roadway design, field surveying, traffic analysis, and inspection in a public sector setting.

Current enrollment in a 4-year engineering bachelor’s program or a 2-year engineering technician program is required. Leadership opportunities and team collaboration are emphasized throughout the internship

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in a 4-year Engineering Bachelor's Degree program or a 2-year Engineering Technician Associate Degree program.
• Proven oral and written communication skills; accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team; reliable and dependable.
• Competent in Microsoft Office Suite; able to maintain effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Engage in Roadway Design and Roadway Plan Production tasks.
• Assist in Design Field Surveying and Staking and topographic/boundary surveys.
• Support Traffic Analysis, Data Collection and reporting activities.
• Assist Construction Inspection and record keeping for projects.
• Support Bridge/Culvert inspections and inventory efforts.
• Contribute to asphalt paving program construction administration and site inspections.
• Collaborate with engineering staff and public stakeholders.
