Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. in Ishpeming, MI is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern to support engineering and design activities across plant operations.

You will work with senior engineers on equipment installation, upgrades, and process improvements, gaining exposure to project management, cost, schedule, and safety considerations. The internship is designed for current students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Civil or structural engineering, with at least sophomore standing by summer 2027, and

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a BS program in Civil/Structural Engineering or related technical field.
• Completion of at least sophomore year of study by summer 2027.
• Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

• Identify and recommend purchase, modification, and improvement of equipment and facilities.
• Manage cross-functional projects with attention to cost, schedule, and deliverables.
• Define project scope and select team members from within and outside their discipline.
• Lead engineering and design work for installation and retrofit of equipment, infrastructure, and facilities.
• Provide advanced day-to-day equipment troubleshooting support to Maintenance.
• Develop standards, processes, and procedures within the department.
• Support miscellaneous projects to assist the business.

As a Civil Engineering Intern at Cleveland-Cliffs, the projects assigned will vary based on the intern’s education level and plant location, but will generally reflect the duties outlined below.

Summary of Responsibilities

• Identification and recommendation of the purchase, modification and improvement of varied equipment and facilities
• Manage aspects of large cross-functional projects and be aware of costs, schedule, performance, and deliverables for projects assigned
• Define the scope of the project and select team members from within and outside of their discipline
• Lead the completion of engineering & design work related to the installation and retrofit of varied, complex equipment, infrastructure, and facilities
• Ensure that advanced day-to-day equipment troubleshooting support is provided to Maintenance
• Lead the development of standards, processes, and procedures within the department
• Suggest recommendations for improvement and various other duties as needed to support the business
• Various other projects as needed to support the business

Minimum Qualifications

• Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program in the field of Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or other related technical degree
• Completion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2027
