Primary Function:
As a member of a project team, theCivilEngineeringInternwill perform engineering and design duties, which require application of engineering principles.Assignments are closely supervised and designed to further develop employee’s job knowledge and abilities.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Work with a project team to create ormodifyall civil and structural design documents and drawings for a project, under direct supervision.
- Perform engineering support tasks such as wind load calculations and structural analysis, with minimal supervision.
- Learn and apply engineering standards including NESC, IEEE, ANSI, AISC and ACI.
- Learn and properly use the document management system.
- Learn and apply corporate standard engineering practices.
- Spend time at job sites to gain hands-on knowledge andadditionaltraining in substation construction and design.
- Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her work.
- Bring potential project-related problems andpossible solutionsto the attention of theresponsible party.
- Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments.
- Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.

- Take ownership of your work — double-check calculations and drawings beforesubmitting, andcatch errors before they become someone else's problem.
- Learn the "why" behind engineering standards and codes (NESC, IEEE, ANSI, AISC, ACI), not just the requirements, to build real design judgment.
- Spend time at job sites to connect your designs to real-worldconstruction, andbring proposed solutions along with any problems you raise.
- Master the document management system and corporate engineeringpractices, andsay yes to travel andadditionalassignments to build credibility fast.
Minimum Qualifications / Experience
Working towards aBachelor’s degree inCivil Engineeringfrom an accredited university isrequired,a power focus is preferred.Prior internship and/or related work experience in the power field is preferred.
- Knowledge of steel and concrete design.
- Basic knowledge of structural analysis.
- Knowledge of common word processing,spreadsheet, and e-mail software.
- Working in a team environment.
- Communicating effectively with co-workers, vendors, clients, etc.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods during computer-based work.
- Ability to stand and walk intermittently throughout the workday.
- Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
- Occasional travel to other offices or meeting locations.
Environmental Conditions
- Primarily climate-controlled office environment.
- Occasional exposure to field or industrial environments during site visits.
