Job summary

TRC is seeking highly motivated Civil Engineering Interns for its Summer 2027 program out of the Chicago, IL Office. This is a paid full-time internship from June through August 2027, with potential to transition to a full-time role after graduation.

Interns will work under Project Managers and Team Leaders alongside engineers, scientists, and technologists. The program emphasizes hands-on site work, data collection, and collaboration within a mentoring environment to develop practical skills

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor or Associate Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Must be 18 years old or older.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be flexible, well organized, accountable and dependable.
• Physically able to perform field work.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site visits, surveys and inspections, and assist with data collection for infrastructure projects.
• Assist team in the production of project plans, specifications, scheduling, budgeting, memos and cost estimates.
• Assist senior staff with various construction management tasks.
• Use AutoCAD, MicroStation and GIS to prepare engineering and design documents.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as necessary.
• Fully in-person position; may include field work and occasional driving.

TRC is seeking highly motivated and diverse Civil Engineering Interns for our Summer 2027 intern program out of our Chicago, IL Office. This is a paid full-time position. Anticipated duration will be from June through August 2027 (flexible). This position has the potential to transition into a Full-Time role upon graduation. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Project Managers and Team Leaders and partner with engineers, scientists, and technologists.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site visits, surveys and inspections, and assist with data collection, compilation and assessment for infrastructure projects.


• Assist team in the production of project plans, specifications, scheduling, budgeting, technical memorandums and cost estimates.


• Assist senior staff with various construction management tasks.


• Computer assisted engineering and design software to prepare engineering and design documents (examples include software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and GIS)


• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as necessary.


• May include field work and occasional driving as part of project responsibilities.


• Fully in-person position.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.


• Junior or senior pursuing a Bachelor or Associate Degree in Civil Engineering, or related field.


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


• Must be flexible, well organized, accountable, and dependable.


• Physically able to perform work in the field.


• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and software's such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and GIS.


• Honest, fun, hard-working and ready to learn and grow.

Compensation

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
