Job summary

Mead & Hunt, Inc. is seeking a limited-term, full-time civil engineering intern in our Bismarck, ND office to work on airport projects across North Dakota from May/June 2027 through August/September 2027.

You will assist engineers, technicians and surveyors with field tasks, measurements, reports, and pay estimates, plus gain experience with AutoCAD, Civil3D, and MS Office while visiting construction sites as required.

Qualifications

• Two semesters of civil engineering coursework completed by date of hire.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background checks for airport access; travel to project sites 80–100%.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers, technicians, and surveyors on civil airport projects such as taxiways, runways, and aprons.
• Perform field measurements, quantity calculations, and prepare pay estimates.
• Assist with project report preparation and documentation.
• Perform field inspection, surveying, and related tasks.
• Support with basic research and writing as needed.

As a result of our expansive growth, we have a position available for a limited-term, full-time civil engineering intern based in our Bismarck, ND office to work in the construction field at various airport projects located throughout North Dakota starting in May/June 2027 and ending in August/September 2027.

This intern will be responsible for assisting engineers, technicians, and surveyors with civil engineering projects in the following areas:

• Assisting engineers, technicians, and surveyors with civil airport projects including taxiways, runways, aprons, etc.
• Performing measurements and quantity calculations and preparing pay estimates
• Assisting with project report preparation
• Performing field inspection, documentation, and survey work
• Some technical research and writing
• Other tasks as assigned.

A valid driver’s license, the ability to pass background checks to gain access to airport sites, and frequent travel to construction project sites 80%-100% of the time will be required.

Successful candidates must have completed at least two semesters of college-level coursework in civil engineering or construction engineering from an accredited college or university by date of hire.

The ideal candidate will have experience with any/all the following:

• Construction field experience including observation and documentation
• Previous internships involving construction, DOT projects, surveying and/or civil site inspections
• Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and Civil3D software
• Understanding of basic grading and testing processes
• Knowledge of airport planning and/or design
• Survey tasks
• Civil/survey engineering coursework
