Job summary

IMEG in Billings, MT is hiring a Civil Engineering New Graduate to work with a team of engineers on residential and land development projects. You will perform basic analyses, support site drainage and grading design, and contribute to permit applications with mentorship from senior staff.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic civil engineering calculations including hydraulic, traffic, piling, rebar, and site earthwork balancing.
• Assist with engineering analysis, field inspections, report writing, permit applications, and site drainage and grading design.
• Assist in designing water and sewer systems for smaller private and larger municipal systems.
• Assist with grading and stormwater designs for commercial, industrial, and residential site plans.
• Interact with clients to gather project requirements, communicate technical information, and build professional relationships.
• Support project execution by assisting with planning, scheduling, design documentation, progress monitoring, and budgets.
• Analyze low to medium complexity tasks and collaborate with senior engineers to develop practical solutions.
• Participate in IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs meet standards and client requirements.
• Prioritize safety and regulatory compliance and apply design criteria to project needs.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Stay up to date with industry trends and contribute to innovation efforts within IMEG.

IMEG is hiring a Civil Engineering New Graduate in Billings, MT to work closely with a team of experienced engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients to ensure positive outcomes. This entry-level role offers hands‑on design, analysis, and project execution experience, with mentorship, training, and opportunities to grow your expertise from day one.

In this role, you will assist with engineering analysis, design, field inspections, report writing, permit applications, and site drainage and grading design while supporting projects within budget and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. You will contribute to residential and land development work while delivering resilient, environmentally responsible infrastructure.

What You’ll Do

What You’ll Bring

Required

Education

• Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required

Required Skills/Abilities

• Basic skills or knowledge with AutoCAD Civil 3D software and the ability to complete AutoCAD training sessions as quickly as possible
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Attention to detail and problem‑solving skills
• Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges
• Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook

Preferred

• Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
• Engineer in Training (EIT) License preferred

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds
• Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull
• Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises

• Subgrade inspection, site plans, staking, and subdivision feasibility across Bozeman and Big Sky
• Geotechnical reports, septic permitting, and commercial site support in the Billings market
• Boundary survey, ALTA, and land development for multi-family and custom homes
• Recent work includes Big Sky Subgrade Inspections, Housing; Gallatin County Septic & Geotech, Housing; and Billings Commercial Site Plans, Commercial
