Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Civil Engineering Designer (Entry Level) role based in Springfield, IL. The Civil Engineering Designer will assist in developing plans and layout drawings using CADD and other design tools under the guidance of senior engineers. Responsibilities include supporting highway transportation projects. The individual will help collect engineering information and data, perform computations and analyses, prepare engineering drawings and maps, compile design calculations, perform traffic and safety studies, write engineering reports and technical documentation, perform field work, and coordinate with internal team members to integrate design inputs across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Foundational skills in Civil Engineering Design, including preparation of plans, calculations, and basic infrastructure layouts.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, or equivalent relevant education.
• Basic proficiency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD or MicroStation); exposure to civil design tools (e.g., Civil 3D, InRoads) is preferred.
• Familiarity with highway and traffic engineering design standards such as the Highway Capacity Manual, AASTHO Highway Safety Manual, AASHTO Greenbook or the MUTCD.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in drawings and calculations.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification holder preferred
