Job summary

The City of Ann Arbor is seeking a Civil Engineering Construction Inspector to perform construction inspection of roads, sidewalks, bridges, sewers and water mains. Responsibilities include plan review, inspection, ordinance enforcement, and basic design-drafting tasks using AutoCAD.

Strong emphasis on safety training and field surveying support for civil projects. Starting pay is $28.44/hour with potential increases based on service length, advancement, and contractual factors.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED.
  • Minimum 3 years progressive construction inspection experience.
  • Must attend all Safety Training required by Supervisor or Regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform civil engineering construction inspection of roads, sidewalks, bridges, sewers and water mains.
  • Review construction plans and inspect field conditions; enforce ordinances and supervise traffic control.
  • Support surveying and drafting tasks, including basic CAD work (AutoCAD).

Description

Civil Engineering Construction Inspector

Starting pay is $28.44/hour

After hire, pay increases are dependent on length of service, advancement in the position, and other contractual factors.

Role Summary

The Civil Engineering Construction Inspector, perform civil engineering construction inspection of, including but not limited to, roads, sidewalks, bike paths, bridges, buildings, structures, sewers, water mains, landfills, and environmental projects. Responsibilities include plan review and inspection of construction, ordinance enforcement, traffic control and basic design-drafting-surveying tasks. Perform drafting duties required in support of civil engineering projects. Responsibilities include computer aided drafting (currently AutoCAD), records and data management, office work associated with surveying and construction inspection functions, construction plan review and basic design. Perform surveying duties required in support of civil engineering projects. Responsibilities include field surveying, office work associated with surveying requirements, plan review and assist in construction inspection, basic design, and drafting tasks. The work involves a range of competencies in a variety of areas.

Specialty Track 1 - All Construction Inspection related work, including but not limited to:

  • Road, sidewalk and path inspection
  • Sewer inspection
  • Water main inspection
  • Construction traffic control
