Job description

Columbus Technical College is seeking a part-time instructor (adjunct) for the Civil Engineering program. Under general supervision, the instructor will prepare lesson plans, evaluate student progress, and assist with recruitment and retention efforts. The position requires day, night, evening, and online instruction. This position is part-time/exempt.

Note:

  1. May teach high school students.
  2. May require teaching on or off campus within our service area (Muscogee, Stewart, Quitman, Chattahoochee, Harris, and Talbot counties).
  3. May involve travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Instruct students in Civil Engineering skills.
  • Develop and follow program and course outlines based on state standards.
  • Create daily lesson plans.
  • Assess and record student progress.
  • Incorporate work ethics into the student culture.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and records.
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning styles.
  • Meet with students and staff to discuss instructional programs.
  • Ensure safety in lab areas.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Assist in developing program goals and industry standards.
  • Complete administrative tasks promptly.
  • Support recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts.
  • Participate in developing an advisory committee.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Flexible working hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • At least 3 years of full-time civil engineering work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Postsecondary teaching or training experience.
  • Online teaching experience.
