Job summary

M2 Group, LLC in Franklin, TN, is seeking a Civil Engineering Staff Engineer to join our Civil Engineering Design Team. You will collaborate on site development projects from concept to final design, focusing on layout, grading, utilities, and stormwater, with guidance from senior engineers and Project Managers.

You will gain hands-on experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D and learn to navigate zoning, permitting, and regulatory requirements while supporting clients and preparing project documents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school.
• 0-4 years of experience in commercial site design, entitlement processes, permitting, and coordinating construction activities through completion.
• Entry level to moderate skill in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• FE passage preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of engineering/project documents including due diligence reports, construction documents, drainage reports, specifications, and construction schedule/estimating.
• Use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to assess soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data for planning and design.
• Research and apply jurisdictional requirements including Zoning and Subdivision Regulations to engineering design.
• Assist in engineering drawing development from concept through final construction documents including Site Layout, Grading/Drainage, Utilities, and Erosion Control Design using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Support zoning, ordinance, permit assessments, and cost estimates to determine project feasibility.
• Provide field observation services as needed.
• Collaborate with team members on project tasks and assignments.
• Research and ensure compliance with AHJ.

POSITION SUMMARY

As a Civil Engineering Staff Engineer in our Franklin office, you’ll work closely with our Civil Engineering Design Team and leadership to plan and execute an array of project types, collaborating directly with clients along the way. Early on, you’ll spend significant time learning design with AutoCAD from the best in the business. You’ll work side by side with professional engineers and Project Managers on conceptual layouts through final design (layout, grading and stormwater, utilities, and EPSC) and technical permitting. You’ll work on projects on raw or redeveloped land, researching code and available information to determine project viability. As you gain expertise, your responsibilities will quickly expand. In a small business, duties are broad and varied. No two days are the same.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in the preparation of engineering/project documents including due diligence reports, construction documents, drainage reports, specifications, and construction schedule/estimating
• Use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to assess soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data and their impact on the planning and design of projects
• Research and apply various jurisdictional requirements including Zoning and Subdivision Regulations to engineering design
• Assist in engineering drawing development from concept through final construction documents including; Site Layout, Grading/Drainage, Utilities, and Erosion Control Design utilizing engineering and design software (AutoCAD Civil 3D)
• Support zoning, ordinance, permit assessments, and cost estimates to determine the feasibility of projects based on the analysis of collected data
• Provide field observation services, as needed
• Collaborate with team members on project tasks and assignments
• Research and ensure compliance with applicable Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)

POSITION PRE-REQUISITES AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school and have 0-4 years of experience in commercial site design, entitlement processes, permitting, and coordinating construction activities through completion. Prior internships preferred.
• Entry level to moderate skill in AutoCAD Civil 3D
• Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) passage preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Strong understanding of industry, municipality, regulatory, and business operation standards
