The City and County of Honolulu invites applications for a Civil Engineer V to lead and participate in the design, construction, maintenance and operation of civil engineering projects across multiple departments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • One year of registered professional civil engineering experience.
  • Possession of Hawaii professional Civil Engineer license or eligibility.

Civil Engineer V performs difficult professional engineering work in supervising and participating in the design, construction, maintenance and operation of civil engineering projects.

What You Will Do

General duties include but are not limited to:

  • Supervising preliminary and final surveys
  • Designing structures such as reservoirs, retaining walls, bridges, culverts, tunnels, pipelines, sewers, sidewalks, highways, etc
  • Assigning subordinate engineers and inspectors to construction projects
  • Settling disputes between contractors and inspectors
  • Approving construction changes

There are multiple vacancies across various departments within the City and County of Honolulu:

  • Three vacancies with the Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS), Capital Projects Division.
    • Two (2) vacancies in the Design & Plan Review Branch
    • One (1) vacancy in the Construction Management Pipeline Section
  • Four vacancies with the Department of Design and Construction (DDC).
    • Two (2) vacancies in the Civil Division.
      • This includes a vacancy in the Structural Support Section. Responsible for managing engineering projects involving bridge improvements, earth movement and slope stabilization, and guardrail and roadway safety improvements. Duties include project planning, design, and construction coordination, review of plans and specifications, consultant and contractor oversight, interagency coordination, budget, and schedule monitoring.
    • Two (2) vacancies in the Facilities Division.
  • Six vacancies with the Department of Environmental Services (ENV).
    • Four (4) vacancies in the Environmental Quality Division
    • One (2) vacancies in the Wastewater Engineering & Construction Division
  • Three vacancies with the Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM).
    • One (1) vacancy in the Road Maintenance Division.
    • Two (2) vacancies in the Storm Water Quality Division.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an engineering specialty.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

LICENSE REQUIREMENT
  1. Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license, as required.
  2. Possession of a valid license as a professional Civil Engineer in the State of Hawaii.

NOTE: Applicants with a current out-of-state professional Civil Engineer license must obtain their Hawaii license prior to appointment.
