Civil Engineer - Project Engineer - Mid Level
Location: Project Sites – Chicago area
Hybrid: Home / office / field
Salary: 80-100k
Permanent Direct Hire

Reports To: Project Manager / Construction Manager / Senior Engineer

Position Summary:
The Project Engineer will support Transportation, Infrastructure, Tollway, Highway construction project plandevelopment and submittal processing. This position provides exposure to construction documentation, sequencing, and agency compliance requirements. Working nights and weekends may be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with collecting and organizing information for the construction project plan, including staging, access, and sequencing.
  • Work with senior staff to update the construction project plan as the project progresses.
  • Help integrate safety, quality, and environmental inputs into the construction plan.
  • Maintain the submittal log and track statuses using the project document management system.
  • Assist in assembling submittal packages, such as shop drawings, material cut sheets, and certifications.
  • Follow up on outstanding reviews and coordinate with internal teams to close out submittals.
  • Attend coordination meetings and document construction project plan or submittal-related updates.
  • Help prepare simple reports or trackers on submittal statuses and project documentation.
  • Adhere to document control protocols and maintain organized records.
  • Coordination of subcontractors and weekly progress reports.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Certified IDOT Documentation Technician / Documentation of Contract Quantities or able to attain it within one year.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience (/co-op experience applicable).
  • Understanding of construction project workflows and documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with SharePoint, or similar systems is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Reliable transportation is required


Skills/Certifications:

  • Exposure to transportation or infrastructure projects
  • Interest in professional development toward EIT/PE licensure.
  • Effective communication and team collaboration skills.
