Job summary

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. in Denver is seeking a Drainage Engineer with 4–8 years of experience to support highway, bridge, aviation and transit projects across Colorado and the western United States.

You will lead hydrology/hydraulic analyses, mentor staff, and coordinate multi-disciplinary design efforts. The role requires a PE in Colorado (or ability to obtain within 6 months) and a strong background in storm drainage design, modeling and coordination with regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a U.S. ABET accredited school or equivalent.
  • Registration as Professional Engineer (PE) in Colorado is required or the ability to obtain within six months from the hiring date if licensed in another state.
  • 4 to 8 years of experience in mid- and/or large-scale transportation drainage projects including hydrology, hydraulics, floodplain impacts, erosion control and water quality analyses.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; able to work with internal teams, clients, contractors and regulatory staff.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to mentor, learn and work independently while managing time and budget.

Responsibilities

  • Work on a team with project engineers on storm drainage analyses and design for transportation projects per agency requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise in drainage hydrology and hydraulic modeling for planning, design, reports, and construction plans.
  • Coordinate design development, collaborate with other disciplines, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Provide quality control within the drainage discipline to ensure accurate designs and deliverables.
  • Review and prepare plans, specifications, and estimates; review vendor/engineer drawings and recommend improvements.

Our West Central Mountains Transportation Drainage Group is seeking to hire an ambitious Drainage Engineer with +4 years of experience in either of our Denver, Colorado offices to support our highway, bridge, aviation, and transit projects throughout Colorado and the western United States. In this role you’ll:
  • Work on a team with other project engineers on detailed storm drainage analyses and design for urban and rural transportation projects per the requirements of the project and transportation agencies including FHWA, CFLHD, CDOT, UDOT, and WYDOT.
  • Provide technical expertise in drainage hydrology and hydraulic modeling on all project aspects associated with conceptual planning, detailed engineering design, reports, and preparation of construction plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate design development, collaborate with other disciplines, and assist in providing technical direction and mentorship to other engineers.
  • Provide quality control within the drainage discipline to ensure completeness and accuracy of designs and deliverables.
  • Review and prepare plans, technical specifications, and estimates.
  • Review drawings supplied by vendors, clients, and engineers and provide recommendations for improvement.
Here’s what you'll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a U.S. ABET accredited school or equivalent.
  • Registration as Professional Engineer (PE) in Colorado is required or the ability to obtain within six (6) months from the hiring date if licensed in another state.
  • 4 to 8 years of experience working on mid- and/or large-scale transportation related projects providing drainage design, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, floodplain impacts, erosion control, and water quality analyses.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and capable of working with internal colleagues, clients, contractors, and regulatory agency staff.
  • Team oriented with strong capability to learn, mentor, and work independently while managing time and budget.
Ideally, you'll also have:
  • Experience with CAD software including Bentley OpenRoads, and Autodesk Civil 3D.
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software such as HEC-RAS, HY-8, SWMM-based platforms, InfoWorks ICM, StormCAD, and similar tools. Experience with ArcGIS Pro and related GIS utilities.
  • Experience in designing storm sewer collection and conveyance systems, as well as stormwater management facilities, including detention ponds.
  • Experience in designing water quality control measures for MS4 and local agency compliance.
  • Experience in hydrologic and hydraulic 1D and 2D modeling for offsite cross-drainage structures and FEMA designated floodplain impacts.

The base salary range for this position is $94,300.00 to $140,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
