Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is recruiting to fill Advanced level Civil Engineer Transportationpositions located in the Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD) offices in the Southwest Regionin LaCrosse or Madison. These vacancies are located in our System Operations Section.

Position Summary

Southwest Region (SWR)
Safety Engineer (Madison only) - This position performs a variety of traffic engineering tasks. The responsibilities of this position typically involve independently responsible for retrieving, analyzing and disseminating crash information in the interest of overall highway safety, represent the Department at various internal and external meetings (including county traffic safety meetings), and work closely with other units in the traffic area.

Maintenance Engineer (Madison only) - This position is responsible for engineering expertise pertaining to highway maintenance. This position provides engineering direction and guidance and performs the most complex functions of a professional engineering nature in highway and bridge maintenance activities. This position serves as the primary engineer for all aspects pertaining to winter maintenance in the assigned geographic area within the Southwest Region including policy decisions and media exposure. In addition to being responsible for field surveys, reviews, and plan specification reviews of all state highway projects, this position assists the maintenance supervisor in the development of the highway maintenance program .

Salary Information

This position is in schedule-range 14-13with anannual salary of $90,064 - $108,950, plus excellent benefits. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Travel up to 25% of the time may be required.

Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. For permanent positions that allow remote work flexibility, it is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin (or bordering cities) will be allowedbecause positions may need to report to office locations in Wisconsin on short notice.

This position offers a hybridized work schedule. The position will be headquartered at and required to work from the SWR Office in La Crosse or Madison, Wisconsin two days per week. All employees working a hybrid work schedule are still expected to telework from within the state of Wisconsin. This topic will be discussed more at the time of the interview.
