Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Civil Engineer for Fort Wayne, IN to deliver civil design and plan production for site development, grading, drainage, paving, and utility design. The role requires independent judgment, project management, and technical oversight to ensure high-quality deliverables and client satisfaction.

You will develop calculations, prepare plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D, manage projects from inception to completion, coordinate with clients and stakeholders, and mentor junior staff

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering or construction-related projects.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop engineering calculations and technical designs to support civil engineering projects.
  • Prepare construction plans and specifications using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Manage projects from inception through completion, including client communication, public engagement, scheduling, budgeting, and coordination of internal resources.
  • Conduct and oversee site investigations, surveys, data collection, and related field activities.
  • Review and approve engineering designs, reports, calculations, and plan sets for accuracy and quality.
  • Provide training, mentorship, and technical guidance to engineering and design staff.
  • Lead quality assurance efforts and recommend design modifications when necessary.
  • Identify client engineering and surveying needs, develop proposals, and prepare fee estimates.
  • Coordinate with government agencies, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to obtain project information and approvals.
  • Prepare and review engineering reports, construction specifications, bid documents, and quantity takeoffs.
  • Develop construction cost estimates and perform periodic site visits to monitor project progress and construction quality.

Job description

The Civil Engineer is responsible for delivering civil engineering design and plan production for a diverse range of projects, including site development, grading and drainage, paving, utility design, and related infrastructure improvements. This role requires independent judgment in the application of engineering principles, project management, and technical oversight while ensuring high-quality deliverables and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and sound engineering judgment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting project budgets and deadlines.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams, including planners, engineers, surveyors, architects, and technicians.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior staff.
  • Broad knowledge of civil engineering disciplines and project delivery methods.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering or construction-related projects.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
Reporting Structure
  • Reports directly to the Regional Engineering Manager.
  • May supervise and mentor multiple direct reports.
Location & Travel
  • Position based in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
  • Approximately 10-15% local travel required.
Compensation:

$90,000 to $100,000 per year annual salary.

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
