As a Civil Engineer in our Traffic Services Division, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping Overland Park's future through planning, funding, consultant selection, plan review, and project management from design to completion. Your expertise will influence the development of City Design Criteria, Specifications, and Standard Details.

Responsibilities
  • Manage design and construction of traffic engineering projects and assist with roadway and stormwater projects.
  • Review engineering plans for traffic signals, streetlights, fiber optic systems, signs, pavement markings, and work zone controls.
  • Prepare design plans, specifications, and contracts for traffic engineering projects in accordance with municipal codes.
  • Conduct traffic studies and recommend improvements.
  • Evaluate citizen requests for traffic calming measures.
  • Oversee data collection and public inquiries regarding traffic concerns.
  • Assist in updating materials, standards, and design guides.
  • Operate traffic engineering software and maintain databases to enhance operations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil engineering with emphasis on traffic or transportation engineering.
  • Professional Engineer registration in Kansas or another state, with registration in Kansas within 12 months.
  • Possession of PTOE certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Six+ years of traffic engineering experience, including project management and contract development.

No residency requirement. Must pass background check, drug screen, and physical exam. Normal work hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Salary range: $89,700.91 - $123,787.72. Application is open until filled. Benefits are full-time. Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the U.S. and provide proof of eligibility if hired.
