Talbert, Bright & Ellington, LLC. (TBE) is an aviation-focused civil engineering firm seeking a Civil Engineer (PE) to lead design and management of airport-related projects in Virginia and beyond. The role requires PE licensure (or ability to obtain) and 5+ years of transportation/aviation experience, with AutoCAD and Civil 3D expertise.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a PE license or ability to obtain one.
• 5+ years of civil engineering design experience on transportation projects; aviation experience preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Ability to work independently and in teams; strong communication and organizational skills.
• Experience with cost estimating, project phasing, and scheduling.
• Knowledge of airport airside, landside and infrastructure projects; familiarity with FAA/TSA regulations and AIP funding is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop production work plans, schedules, and budgets.
• Assist Client/Project Manager with scopes and budgets for new task orders or amendments.
• Produce plans using AutoCAD and Civil 3D for aviation airside and landside projects.
• Ensure compliance with codes, regulations, and standards on projects.
• Oversee successful completion of projects under supervision.
• Perform calculations and analyses; develop design options and document findings.
• Prepare roadway design plans, profiles, and geometric layouts; create civil plans, specs, and cost estimates.
• Develop project phasing and scheduling plans.

Job description

Talbert, Bright & Ellington, LLC. (TBE) is a full-service, professional aviation engineering firm focused on the planning, design, and construction for airports in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Florida. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina for over 30 years.

TBE is seeking a Civil Engineer (PE) - Aviation to manage, lead, and perform civil engineering design for airport-related projects. The ideal candidate will have technical expertise in the design of airside and landside aviation projects, including airfield and roadway geometrics, paving, grading, drainage and/or utilities design.

The position will be responsible for performing engineering duties including planning, design, and scheduling of engineering work; performing more advanced design, organizing, and developing design plans; and developing technical specifications and bid estimates. Positions are available in Richmond, VA and Wilmington, NC.

Must be able to work on-site in our Richmond or Wilmington office five days per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop production work plans, schedules, and budgets.
• Assist Client/Project Manager or Senior Civil Engineer with preparation of scopes and budgets for new task orders or amendments.
• Work as a member of aviation airside and/or landside design project teams including plans production using primarily AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Ensure proper codes, regulations, and standards are being used by engineers on projects.
• Responsible for the successful completion of projects under his/her direction.
• Adjust and correlate data, research code issues, applicable third-party agency requirements, design options, and document findings.
• Perform calculations and analysis using engineering formulas.
• Prepare roadway design plans, profiles and geometric layout designs.
• Prepare civil plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Develop project phasing and scheduling plans.

Skills, Knowledge And Expertise

• Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
• Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina, South Carolina, or Virginia (or ability to obtain).
• 5+ years of civil engineering design experience on transportation projects, aviation project experience preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Experience in cost estimating, project phasing, and scheduling.
• Must be capable of effective oral and written communication; work in a team-oriented manner and possess analytical and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of airport airside, landside and/or infrastructure projects, FAA and TSA regulations, and AIP funding requirements, is preferred.
