Qualifications

Job description

Tap Into Innovative System Designs

Make a positive impact as a Klingner Civil Engineer in our Water / Wastewater Department. This specialized group improves water quality and addresses complex wastewater challenges in communities and with industries throughout Illinois, Missouri, Western Kentucky, and Iowa. As part of our team, you’ll work alongside engineers who are passionate about safety and sustainability, spearhead innovative projects that shape municipal and industrial infrastructure, engage diverse stakeholders, and unlock numerous opportunities for advancement and professional development.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead water and wastewater infrastructure projects while managing timelines, budgets, and overall quality.
  • Develop and review designs, plans, specifications, permitting, and final construction documents for water distribution systems, pumping stations, sewer collection systems, lift stations, storm water systems, and water / wastewater treatment plants.
  • Consider various technologies, system efficiency, reliability, operator capabilities, long-term need, and environmental impact to promote sustainable design.
  • Provide specialized technical input as well as hydraulic / hydrologic modeling and evaluations to support reporting and design.
  • Complete Preliminary Engineering Reports, opinions of probable construction cost, and all other necessary reports and estimates.
  • Identify and address potential project risks and independently produce mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Local, State, and Federal regulations concerning water quality, water treatment, public health, and environmental protection.
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory trends to provide forward-thinking solutions.
  • Meet all applicable funding agency requirements and remain knowledgeable of current potential funding avenues.
  • Follow industry design trends, technological advancements, professional organizations, and new certifications.
  • Perform and / or coordinate thorough inspections and assessments, as needed, with an emphasis on safety and timeliness.
  • Implement Klingner standards and quality control procedures to ensure project safety, reliability, and longevity.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, stakeholders, funding agencies, and regulatory bodies to solicit feedback, resolve issues, and meet project objectives.
  • Attend city council, town meetings, and design meetings to hear municipal updates, present project information, and answer stakeholder questions.
  • Work independently and with other project managers, engineers, technicians, and contractors to complete projects.
  • Organize, prioritize, and perform work assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Clearly document all project phases and client communication.
  • Provide construction oversight and administration, as needed.
  • Travel occasionally to support project-related inspections, meetings, etc.
  • Collaborate and lead a local office staff of two employees in the Water/Wastewater Department.

Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of demonstrated experience in municipal engineering and / or water / wastewater engineering is most desired.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or closely-related engineering field from an accredited university, at minimum. A Master of Science degree is desirable.
  • Must hold a Professional Engineer license in Illinois, or can obtain within three months. Current Professional Engineer licensing in Kentucky or Missouri is also desirable.
  • Must have excellent working knowledge of Civil3D, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word. An understanding of WaterCAD, WaterGEMS, and Revit is a plus.
  • Excellent time management skills, organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple complex projects and tasks concurrently, and a commitment to meeting deadlines and keeping projects within budget is required.
  • Clear written and verbal communication is a must.
  • Understanding of and experience in applying regulatory agency laws, ordinances, and regulations for Municipal, County, State, and Federal agency permitting submittals.
  • Understanding of and experience with various water/wastewater system funding agencies.
  • Experience writing thorough reports and studies, scopes of work, and proposals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to hold strong business relationships with municipal and industrial clients.
  • Ability to conduct all projects by quality standards and Klingner procedures, with a strong focus on accuracy and quality of work.
  • A drive to create high-quality designs, strong sense of commitment, willingness to learn, and desire to work in a team environment.
