Job Description:

Summary:

The person in this position will work on multidisciplinary project teams providing civil engineering, hydraulic and hydrologic analysis, and related technical expertise. Primary responsibilities include developing plans and specifications, site drainage and stormwater control plans, erosion protection plans, cost estimating, field work such as construction observation, hydraulic design and analysis of conveyance systems, design and analysis of energy dissipation structures, report writing, surveying, collecting hydrologic or water quality measurements, and materials testing.

The work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments in the field or another office. Opportunities may include grading plans, earthwork balance calculations, stormwater planning, hydrologic runoff modeling, water balance analysis, hydraulic analysis of structures, pipes, and pumps, and other site-civil work. The role also requires communication with permitting agencies and public officials.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field with an emphasis on water resources
  2. 6 years of relevant professional experience with an emphasis on hydraulic engineering
  3. Professional engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain certification within one year
  4. Familiarity with civil site design, plans and specifications development, earthwork and grading plans, cost estimating, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, hydraulic structure design, and/or open channel and pipe flow modeling
  5. Familiarity with GIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and/or other CADD software
  6. Familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic computer modeling packages
  7. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for effective interaction with team members and clients
  8. Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  9. Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
  10. Experience mentoring entry-level engineers
  11. Flexible working style to meet deadlines and client needs
  12. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  13. Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree or PhD in civil engineering with emphasis on water resources
  2. 8 or more years of relevant professional experience
  3. Project or task management experience
  4. Experience with proposal development
  5. Project design experience including cost estimating and plan/specification preparation
  6. Construction observation experience
  7. Experience with water resources challenges specific to Utah, such as water rights, flooding data analysis, and stream restoration
  8. Strong technical skills across civil engineering topics
  9. Significant experience with GIS, Civil 3D, or other design software
  10. Extensive experience with hydrologic and hydraulic models

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered, involving time between a Barr office and home. The position is based in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Compensation:

The expected base salary range is $95,000-$110,000 per year. Compensation varies based on experience, education, and skills. Eligible for discretionary bonuses based on performance. Barr distributes profits to employees via bonuses and ESOP.
