Duke Energy is seeking a Civil Engineer to join the Substation Engineering team in downtown Cincinnati, OH. The role spans Engineer II or Engineer III depending on experience, focusing on design of distribution and transmission substations from 4kV through 345kV in Ohio and Kentucky.

This position may be filled as an Engineer II or one level higher as an Engineer III dependent upon the experience level of the selected candidate.
The Engineer II position is the intermediate level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer II position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with general supervision. An Engineer II is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer II effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly complex and varied.
The Engineer III position is the advanced level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer III position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with limited supervision. An Engineer III is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer III effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is progressively complex and varied.
This position is for a Civil Engineer on our Substation Engineering team located in Duke Energy’s regional headquarters in downtown Cincinnati, OH.
This work group is responsible for the design of new and existing distribution and transmission substations from 4kV through 345kV in Ohio and Kentucky. Projects range from routine equipment modifications and installations to the complete design of new substations.
The position requires the individual to be able to manage work between multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely release of engineering designs.
The individual will utilize a variety of tools and techniques to complete an engineering design, including current design specifications, pertinent code manuals, computer aided design/drafting software, and other reference sources. The final product is an engineering release package consisting of pertinent drawings, permits, bills of material, etc.
Some travel (<10%) outside geographical area. Office environment with frequent site visits, in various weather conditions. May need to work in confined spaces and/or in noisy work areas. Exposure to potential hazards is commonplace. Hazardous areas routinely encountered include open ditches, heavy machinery, excessive noise, vehicle traffic and high voltage equipment.
