The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to join our Structures/Hydraulics Section. This team leads the development and design of plans, specifications, and estimates for statewide infrastructure projects, including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and related structures. We are currently hiring for both Structural and Hydraulic design roles. This position is located at Barre City Place in Barre, Vermont.
In this role, you will focus on hydraulic design work, performing and reviewing advanced hydraulic analyses for bridges and culverts. You will simulate complex flow conditions under varying storm events, assess the risk of scour and erosion, and develop design solutions that protect Vermont's infrastructure while supporting ecological function. You will work closely with a diverse team of engineers, architects, environmental specialists, and planners to ensure integrated, sustainable project outcomes.You will also be responsible for preparing technical documentation, including reports, drawings, and specifications, and for providing oversight and leadership on projects from initiation through completion.

Duties are generally performed in both office and field settings for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards, and construction sites during all weather conditions and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or relatedtechnical field AND six (6) years of engineering experience.
OR
Licensure as a Professional Engineer AND five (5) years of engineering experience.
OR
Associates degree in degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or related technical field AND eight (8) years of engineering experience INCLUDING licensure as an Engineer Intern.
