Job summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Civil Engineer Intern to support site development projects. This Summer internship offers a meaningful role addressing critical infrastructure challenges and provides hands‑on experience across diverse projects while fostering professional growth and contributing to Black & Veatch’s success.

You’ll join teams addressing grading, stormwater, erosion control, pavements and other design tasks, collaborating with multidisciplinary groups to meet client requirements.

Qualifications

  • No experience required; current enrollment in ABET-accredited Civil Engineering program with emphasis in Structural, Environmental, Transportation, or Geotechnical.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline.
  • Basic industry knowledge and technology trends.
  • Basic knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles.

Responsibilities

  • Develops familiarity by reading, understanding and applying departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates with multidisciplinary project teams to support design and construction of a wide variety of projects involving grading design, stormwater design, erosion control design, culvert design, pavement design, etc.
  • Participates in project coordination meetings and works with project teams to resolve design challenges and incorporate client requirements.
  • Performs routine research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection
  • Prepares basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles used in similar engineering analysis
  • Assists with development of project schedules, cost estimates, and engineering deliverables to support successful project execution.
  • Focuses on the needs of internal clients (project team leadership) while attempting to gain basic understanding of external client's main interests and drivers
  • Develops and applies knowledge of engineering software, design tools, and digital delivery methods.

Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications
  • Civil Engineering degree preferred.
  • 3.0 GPA preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline

  • Basic knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles
Minimum Qualifications

No experience required. Current enrollment in ABET accredited university in Civil Engineering program with emphasis in Structural, Environmental, Transportation, or Geotechnical. All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
