Job summary

The Vermont Agency of Transportation is seeking a Civil Engineer II to join the Structures/Hydraulics Section. You will develop plans, specifications, and estimates for statewide transportation projects with a focus on hydrology and hydraulics, supporting bridge and culvert design and analysis using hydraulic modeling and hydrologic calculations.

You will prepare technical documentation, perform field assessments, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams while utilizing HEC-RAS, SRH-2D, HY-8

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in civil engineering or related field with 2+ years of experience, or an Associate's with 4+ years and EIT licensure.
  • Proficiency with hydraulic/hydrologic modeling tools (HEC-RAS, SRH-2D, HY-8, WMS).
  • Experience with GIS software for mapping and data evaluation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple assignments.
  • Availability for fieldwork in various weather conditions and potential evenings/weekends.

Job description

This Civil Engineer II position is part of the Structures/Hydraulics Section at the Vermont Agency of Transportation, where engineers develop plans, specifications, and estimates for transportation infrastructure statewide. The role focuses on hydrology and hydraulics, supporting the design and analysis of bridges and culverts through hydraulic modeling, hydrologic calculations, and stream behavior evaluation. Engineers prepare technical documentation, conduct field assessments, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams while using specialized tools like HEC-RAS, SRH-2D, and GIS software.

Key qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related technical field plus 2 years of engineering experience
  • OR Associate's degree in civil engineering plus 4 years of engineering experience and Engineer Intern licensure
  • Proficiency with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling tools (HEC-RAS, SRH-2D, HY-8, WMS)
  • Experience with GIS software for mapping and data evaluation
  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple assignments
  • Availability for fieldwork in various weather conditions and potential evening/weekend work
