Job summary

Progressive Engineering team is seeking a Civil Engineer II to design and produce documents for infrastructure projects including storm sewer, water distribution, roadways, and roundabouts. You will collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop plans, permits, and profiles using AutoCAD Civil 3D.

The role emphasizes planning, communication, customer focus, and results-driven execution across multiple project phases with the potential for mentoring and client interaction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
  • %20PE license required%20or in process of being obtained.
  • Proven experience leading civil design projects and preparing design documents and permits.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design teams to meet project schedules and budgets.
  • Prepare design documents, drawings, specs, and permit applications.
  • Review designs and perform field investigations as needed.
  • Mentor junior staff and support business development activities.

YOUR ROLE:

As a Civil Engineer II, you are a Professional Engineer (PE) with a strong background in designing and developing documents for a range of public and private infrastructure projects, including storm and sanitary sewer, water supply, pump stations, wastewater treatment plans, access management plans, traffic calming programs, roadway and roundabout design.

You will work with project managers and other engineers to complete plan design and production for civil engineering design projects , including preparation of design documents and permits for site plans, utility plans and profiles, road design, traffic signal plans, grading plans and right-of-way plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D software. Through planning and aligning and communicating effectively, you maintain a high degree of customer focus and remain results-driven.

Using your organizational and interpersonal savvy and collaboration skills, youwork well within a multi-disciplinary project team, providing technical design expertise and assistance during the various phases of projects.

Leadership
  • Contribute to project goal setting.
  • Lead effective meetings and works with other team members to make their projects successful.
  • Ensure the team achieves project schedules and budgets.

Management
  • Manage multiple projects in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Lead project teams, assign duties to other team members, and monitor overall project progress.
  • Complete projects within developed project scope and available resources.
  • Understand and execute project plans.
  • Review designs and complete field investigation to diagnose problems.
  • Monitor project and al ert the project team members when changes occur in the project scope or schedule.
  • Seal documents when applicable.
Project Quality
  • Participate in a team-oriented environment as well as function independently.
  • Maintain multiple project assignments and work with multiple project engineers.
  • Assist with engineering service proposals including estimates of time required to complete a project.
  • Develop reports and preliminary concepts and full design phase deliverables including drawings, specifications, cost estimates, quantity take-offs, technical reports, narratives, and permit applications.
  • Supervise and prepare calculations and analyses for stormwater management systems, sanitary sewer, water supply and distribution, roadways and traffic signal design.
  • Perform engineering interpretation of specifications and drawings, recommending and documenting design modifications and coordinating with the design team.
  • Prepare Construction Permitting documents.
  • Participate in field investigations and the process to diagnose problems. Perform field inspection services for conformance to plans and specifications and preparation of reports as a follow up.
  • Attend public meetings when required.Consult with regulatory agencies when necessary.
  • Provide design analysis, modeling, critical thinking and technical writing consistent with Progressive’s standards as needed to support projects and deliverables.
  • Advocate and follow Progressive’s policies.
  • Use design software/technology, including Revit, AutoCAD 3D, HEC RAS, EPANET, MicroStation and other emerging technologies for presentation and production purposes.
  • Act as an ambassador for company-wide values and ethical standards of practice.
  • Attend and actively participate in team meetings and activities including ‘Lessons Learned’ sessions.
  • Produce contract documents and design analysis that is efficient and consistent with the scope of work, schedule, and fee allotted to complete the work.
  • Plan, monitor, and control technical costs and scheduled performance of moderately complex projects and mentor others.
  • Own the project profit goals and assist the team in budgeting and time management.
  • Review, monitor, and update project financial reports in a timely manner, managing report formats and information.

  • Maintain a close relationship with the client throughout the project.
  • Foster a commitment to external and internal client service.
  • Mentor less experienced staff to display comfort and confidence with client representatives regarding area of expertise.

  • Embrace the iterative nature of the design process and execute work in a timely manner.
Business Development/Marketing
  • Support new business development and participate in cross team marketing and selling. Follow up on leads and lead interviews.
  • Assist in proposals and contract negotiations to establish scope of work, schedule, and budget.
