Job description

The National Airspace Systems Integration Support (NISC) program at Leidos is seeking a Drafting Engineer to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s Central Service Area – Engineering Services Group located in the FAA’s Jamaica, New York office.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to the Engineering Center by developing site‑specific project plans and specifications for solicitation and contracting of engineering projects for FAA approval and acceptance.
  • Perform site surveys to collect site‑specific project data and research all applicable standards, construction codes and ordinances (state, local, federal, FAA, etc.).
  • Provide analysis, recommendations, and solutions to issues identified during the site survey.
  • Prepare summary trip reports within two working days of trip completion. Reports include compiled and completed project documents such as:
    • Scope of work and project transmittal.
    • Drawing and specification lists.
    • Operational Risk Management checklists.
    • Information required for Purchase Requests (PR) for assigned projects.
    • Information required for NAS Change Proposals (NCP) for assigned projects.
    • List of government‑furnished properties.
    • Airspace case documents.
    • Assessment of engineering impacts on Environmental & Safety Compliance Program Project checklists.
    • Drawings and specifications.
    • Engineering cost estimates per FAA standard/guidelines.
    • Estimated completion time and project schedule.
    • Technical engineering support for all phases of assigned new construction and renovation projects (e.g., evaluating shop drawings, design proposals, and interpreting the technical requirements for adherence to contract documents).
    • Participation in Joint Acceptance Inspections (JAI) and Contractor Acceptance Inspections (CAI) on assigned projects, providing recommended resolutions for engineering items.
    • Engineering studies for feasibility and cost versus benefit.
    • Project drawing development in accordance with FAA standards/guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • BS degree in Civil, Electrical, Architecture, or related engineering discipline, with 2-4 years of experience (additional experience may substitute for degree).
  • Experience with building envelope design.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Unstaffed Infrastructure Sustainment (UIS) facilities.
  • Knowledge of National Airspace System Equipment Tower (NASET), National Airspace System Equipment Building (NASEB), HVAC, power, general building construction techniques, Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT), fire detection, security, and site work.
  • Knowledge of shelters, roofing, and structures such as communication towers, Navigational Aids, and earthwork including roads and trenching.
  • Knowledge of Corporate Work Plan (CWP) 4.1.12.
