# Civil Engineer Associate lDBS - Wisconsin - Cedarburg, WI 53012## OverviewSalary Range$70,000.00 - $75,000.00 Salary/yearPosition TypeFull TimeEducation Level4 Year Degree## Description**POSITION GOAL**The Civil Engineer Associate I will perform basic engineering duties associated with the design of civil engineering projects in the Cedarburg, WI office. This position supports all aspects of design projects for roadways, utilities, transit, etc.; prepare schematics & models; performs analysis & engineering calculations; develops plans, specifications & estimates; prepares technical engineering reports; may perform field duties for various civil engineering projects.**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (GENERAL)**• Possesses foundational engineering concepts. • Acquires basic knowledge and develops basic skills through mentored experience. • Evaluates and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment. • Performs work assignments of minimal complexity. Contributes to specific objectives and outcomes. • Receives instruction on specific objectives and direction on possible solutions to unconventional or complex problems. • Works as part of a team. • Typically receives close supervision on most aspects of assignments and a general review of all aspects of work. • Possesses basic oral and written communication skills. • Interacts primarily with internal project team members. May engage in some external team member, client, or stakeholder interactions. • Adheres to project deadlines and scope and keeps the task manager informed of any difficulties encountered on assignments. • Perform review of your own work before submitting to the next review level.**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (SPECIFIC)**• Assists in developing detailed construction plans for roadway, utility, electrical, and transportation projects using Bentley and/or AutoDesk software. • Assists in updating drawings and calculations per design changes and revisions based on internal or external feedback. • Communicates regularly with internal design staff to coordinate the progress of various assignments and adhere to project deadlines. • Independently manages time and schedule to achieve multiple project milestones. • Assists with organizing and maintaining project files. • Applies current engineering standards and procedures to assigned projects. • Participates in quality control reviews throughout the lifecycle of a project.**COMPETENCIES**• Knowledge of mathematics and its application to field surveying and engineering computations. • Can work effectively as a team player. • Ability to build constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation, and mutual respect for our stakeholders. • Show insight into the root causes of problems. Generates a range of solutions and courses of action with benefits, costs, and risks associated with each. • Consider both short and long-term interests of the client in making decisions. • Demonstrate a professional demeanor, high ethical standards, respect, and commitment to service excellence. • Able to understand the perspective of others before making decisions and taking action.## Qualifications**POSITION REQUIREMENTS****Education:** Bachelor's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering. **Licensure:** Engineer-in-Training Certificate (Preferred). **Job Classification:** Exempt (Salaried)**Report to:** Project Engineer – Team Lead**Experience:** Typically 0 to 3 years. **Communication Skills:** Basic verbal and written communication skills.**Technical Skills:**Spatial and design skills to visualize projects in 2D and 3D. Basic engineering skills to complement the position goal. Basic experience with WisDOT projects and/or projects for Wisconsin Municipalities. Experience with Civil 3D/AutoCAD. Experience in preparing construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates. Basic background in and knowledge of local agency standards preferred. **Supervisory Responsibilities:** N/A**Physical Demands:** Must be able to sit, walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, climb, or balance, talk, or hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects tools or control. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on occasion. **Working Environment:** This job may require long periods of standing or walking in the field and include exposure to all types of outside weather conditions, varying noise levels, and hazards associated with construction. Wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment is required while performing work in the field. The employee may also be exposed to a general office environment, requiring long periods of sitting at a computer in ambient inside temperature, lighting and noise level. Due to the collaborative nature of this position, the work will need to be performed in the field or office, typically during normal business hours. Travel is required; must possess a valid license. **Continuing Education:** Complete state-required competency.
