Job summary

Gfoat seeks a Public Works Engineer in Wichita Falls, TX to design, review and manage infrastructure projects, develop plans and estimates, and address citizen concerns. This role offers independent work with substantial interaction with developers, contractors and city departments.

Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, 4–8 years of experience, and Texas PE licensure (or eligibility within 12 months). A Class C driver's license is also required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare plans, specifications and estimates for Public Works Infrastructure Improvements.
  • Prepare designs and reviews under the direction of the City Engineer.
  • Complete designs and reviews, verify ordinance compliance and bids.
  • Manage construction projects: solicit bids, pre-bid conferences, progress monitoring, payments and closeout.
  • Attend project updates and respond to citizen inquiries.
  • Assist other engineers with projects.

Job description

The purpose of this position is to design, review and manage public works infrastructure and public improvement projects, perform advanced public works engineering duties, provide solutions for problems, and address citizen concerns. This is accomplished by reviewing plans and specifications; designing infrastructure improvement, expansion, construction or relocation projects; developing plans and specifications; project management; coordinating with developers, contractors, consultants, the public and other departments; and responding to inquiries. Work is performed with considerable independence. Prepare plans, specifications, and estimate package by performing the essential functions printed below.

  • 1 - Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice
  • 2 - Prepare plans, specifications and estimates for Public Works Infrastructure Improvements under the direction of the City Engineer.
  • 3 - Completes designs and reviews projects, checking details and layout, verifying ordinance compliance, reviewing proposals for solutions, coordinating efforts with related areas, estimating quantities and costs, verifying submitted bids, and responding to related citizen inquiries.
  • 4 - Manages construction projects by soliciting construction bids, facilitating pre-bid conferences, verifying calculations, finalizing recommendations, processing contract documents, issuing notices, monitoring project progress, recommending payments, and closing out projects.
  • 5 - Attends and monitors updates by participating in regular project update meetings, taking calls from citizens, engineers, architects, contractors and developers, referring questions, and monitoring ongoing projects.
  • 6 - Assists other engineers with projects and related assignments.

EDUCATION - Requires Bachelor's degree in engineering or the hard sciences such as architecture, chemistry, geology, biology, mathematics, or physics or a Master's Degree in Liberal Arts or Business.

EXPERIENCE - Over four years and up to and including eight years.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS - Licensed in the State of Texas as a Professional Engineer.

If licensed in another state individuals will be given twelve (12) months from the date of hire to obtain the PE with the State of Texas.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS - Class 'C' Driver's License
