Job summary

Waldemar S. Nelson & Co., Inc. seeks a Civil Engineer to lead drainage, hydrologic and hydraulic design efforts for complex site projects in South Louisiana.

The role includes the sizing and placement of surface and subsurface drainage, detentions, and flow-control structures, with emphasis on stormwater management and BMP integration. Experience with concrete and steel design is beneficial. The ideal candidate will mentor junior engineers and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Experience in drainage and hydraulic design for civil projects.
• Ability to lead design efforts and collaborate with younger engineers.
• Willingness to relocate to South Louisiana or reside in the area.

Responsibilities

• Lead drainage and hydraulic design efforts for project scopes.
• Prepare plans, calculations, and specifications for drainage and stormwater systems.
• Oversee earthwork balance and site layout for roadways and facilities.
• Integrate BMPs into drainage solutions and coordinate with teams.

Job description

Civil Engineer with the following skill sets:

• Drainage Basin delineation and hydrologic analysis
  • pre- and post-development comparative analysis
• Hydraulic design of drainage systems
  • sizing/placement of surface drainage structures (ditches)
  • design and sizing of subsurface drainage structures and systems
  • sizing/design of detention/retention structures
  • design and selection of flow control structures
• Site layout and earthwork balancing
  • geometric design of roadways
• Selection and integration of appropriate/required stormwater BMPs into drainage systems
• Additionally, suitable candidate should have some general experience in concrete and steel design. The optimum candidate would have a background in design of industrial and petro chemical facilities. Successful candidate should also feel comfortable leading design efforts and working with younger engineers.
• Successful candidate should be in the South Louisiana area or willing to relocate
• PE desirable
