Job summary

Rinker Design Associates in Galax, VA is seeking a Civil Engineer II, P.E. to lead and support the design, analysis, and delivery of civil and infrastructure projects for public-sector clients.

This licensed professional role offers opportunities to own project tasks, collaborate with project managers and senior engineers, and contribute to high-quality, on-time delivery, with a focus on roadway, drainage, and site civil design. Eligible for sign-on bonus and competitive compensation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • P.E. license strongly preferred.
  • E.I.T. with potential for P.E. is preferred.
  • 3–7 years of progressive civil/transportation engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of roadway, drainage, and site civil design principles.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar software.
  • Familiarity with public-sector project delivery and agency standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare designs, calculations, plans, and specs for civil and transportation projects.
  • Support roadway, drainage, site civil, and utilities design under senior guidance.
  • Coordinate with internal/external stakeholders to support delivery.
  • Apply state, federal, and local standards and criteria.
  • Assist with plan production, reports, cost estimates, and permits.
  • Respond to review comments and support QA/QC processes.
  • Provide limited construction-phase support including RFIs and shop drawings review.
  • Participate in mentoring, training, and professional development.

Description

The Civil Engineer II, P.E. is responsible for performing and supporting the design, analysis, and delivery of civil and infrastructure projects for public-sector clients. This role is suited for a licensed professional engineer who is ready to take increased ownership of project tasks, collaborate closely with project managers and senior engineers, and contribute to high-quality, on-time project delivery.

$5K - $10K Sign-On Bonus

  • Prepare engineering designs, calculations, plans, and specifications for civil and transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Support roadway, drainage, site civil, and utility-related design efforts under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers.
  • Coordinate with internal disciplines, subconsultants, and external stakeholders to support project delivery.
  • Apply applicable state, federal, and local standards and design criteria to engineering work.
  • Assist with plan production, technical reports, cost estimates, and permit documentation.
  • Respond to review comments and support quality control and quality assurance processes.
  • Provide limited construction-phase support, including responding to RFIs and reviewing shop drawings as needed.
  • Participate in mentoring, training, and professional development opportunities.

Compensation: $85,000 - $115,000 / year
