Widseth Smith Nolting and Associates Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineer with PE to lead complex projects from our Duluth, MN office.

The role focuses on on-site leadership, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and delivering design concepts and contract documents for municipal and regional projects. The successful candidate will have 7+ years of civil experience, Minnesota/North Dakota PE licensure, and strong communication skills to guide clients and junior staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
• P.E. license in Minnesota or North Dakota.
• 7–10+ years of civil engineering experience.
• Knowledge of MnDOT/NDOT requirements and funding programs.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation preferred.
• Strong communication and client management skills.
• Experience with rural/small-town municipalities (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple clients and projects; may attend city council and commission meetings; manage internal project design and field staff and external consultant partners.
• Develop design concepts using appropriate methodology and oversee plan preparation.
• Prepare technical reports, construction estimating, contract documents and specifications; administer the public bidding process for clients.
• Coordinate verbal and written communication with a multi-discipline team; interact with contractors and clients throughout project phases.
• Support business development by attending industry functions and client meetings/presentations.
• Participate in development of other civil-related projects as deemed appropriate by the firm.

The position focus will be:

To be considered for this position you’ll need to meet the following minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
• Professional licensure (P.E.) in good standing in the state of Minnesota or North Dakota.
• 7-10+ years’ progressive experience in civil engineering.
• Knowledge of NDOT or MnDOT requirements, State-Aid procedures, and common funding programs such as USDA Rural Development and Public Facility Administration.
• A working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D and MicroStation is preferred but is not required.
• Demonstration of good communication skills and client management techniques.

Preferred Experience

• Working with rural or small-town municipalities.
• Familiarity with local, state, and federal funding and permitting processes.
