Job Description

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Civil & Earthworks Drafter I for our US Mine Waste Civil Design and Drafting Team in our Lakewood, CO office. This role involves participating in projects with our Mining group and contributing to a dynamic organization dedicated to achieving client objectives and addressing their challenges.

Responsibilities
  • Create, modify, and develop drawing packages (plans, profiles, sections, and details) primarily in civil design; including complex earthworks, mining (tailings, heap leach pad, waste rock stockpile design, reclamation), stormwater and surface-water controls, groundwater science, landfill design and remediation, and civil infrastructure in the power sector and water treatment facilities, as directed by the Team Leader, team members, and/or project engineer(s).
  • Ensure quality assurance in drafting and design plans by adhering to company CADD standards, proper filing protocols, and established workflows across the entirety of the project scope.
  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, concepts, blueprints, schematics, data, specifications, technical drawings, rough sketches, diagrams, and other matrices to support drafting and design activities for single, multi-phase, or multi-site project work.
  • Use Autodesk Civil 3D to assist with basic design details and prepare drawings that require a high degree of precision.
  • Provide technical drafting and design assistance that accounts for the proper illustration, fit form, and function using geometric dimensioning, tolerance and quantity calculations, while ensuring the construction and maintainability of designs according to design standard specifications.
  • Verify calculations, design change orders, interpret contract plans and specifications, and escalating any issues or technical problems for appropriate resolution.
  • Exhibit basic knowledge of current drafting and design support practices.
  • Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
  • Ensure the specification of dimensions, materials, and procedures for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with contract requirements.
  • Complete assigned task training.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma.
  • One year of relevant experience after completing education, along with previous drafting and design support experience.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD 2024 and Civil 3D 2024 or newer, prioritizing the use of advanced and efficient tools and workflows within these platforms. Key competencies include working with external references, annotative objects, sheet sets, surfaces, alignments, profiles, COGO points, data shortcuts, and other related functions.
  • Strong understanding of drafting and design support principles, practices, processes, methods, and techniques.
  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable codes, regulations, compliance standards, and documentation protocols.
  • i>Strong research and evaluation skills with a keen analytical approach.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, effectively conveying ideas in a clear and professional manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Self‑leadership, attention to detail, willingness to learn new skills, ability to multitask, follow instructions, and adhere to company policies.
  • Ability to work autonomously while collaborating with the team to achieve organizational goals.
  • Proficiency in technical writing, office automation, software applications, technological concepts, mathematical principles, spreadsheet management, and relevant tools.
  • Consistently maintain workplace safety and follow WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Willingness to adapt to project schedules, which may sometimes require working outside the standard workweek.
  • Travel may be necessary at times, contingent upon the requirements of individual projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in a closely related discipline is preferred.

Compensation

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $47,700 - $67,200

WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
