Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Civil / Geotechnical Drafter in Tigard, OR to support a growing geotechnical and environmental consulting team. You will draft for geotechnical investigations, seismic studies, and mapping projects using AutoCAD, GIS, Civil 3D, and MicroStation.

Qualifications

• 2+ years drafting in civil, geotechnical or environmental consulting.
• Proficient with AutoCAD for civil/geotechnical drawings.
• Experience with GIS platforms and geospatial data.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and update civil, environmental, and geotechnical drawings using AutoCAD and GIS platforms.
• Support drafting deliverables for seismic hazard studies, soil instability analyses, site investigations, and mapping projects.
• Develop client-ready plans, exhibits, figures, and technical graphics that communicate site and subsurface conditions.
• Assist with overflow drafting and production support on large projects during peak workloads.
• Interpret geotechnical data, borehole information, and mapping documentation to produce accurate drawings.
• Coordinate with engineers, specialists, and marketing staff to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality work.
• Maintain drawing standards and perform quality control checks for project records.
• Participate in training and knowledge transfer to improve drafting workflows.

Job Title: Civil / Geotechnical Drafter

Job Description

We are seeking a Civil / Geotechnical Drafter to support a growing geotechnical and environmental consulting team during a period of increased project demand. In this role, you provide drafting and production support for geotechnical investigations, seismic and soil instability studies, mapping projects, and civil site-related deliverables. You work closely with engineers, technical staff, and marketing team members in a fast‑paced consulting environment, developing client‑ready plans, figures, and technical graphics that clearly communicate complex site and subsurface conditions. This position offers the opportunity to step into a high‑impact role with potential for longer‑term engagement as project volume increases, while contributing meaningfully to geotechnical and environmental consulting projects.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and update civil, environmental, and geotechnical drawings using AutoCAD and GIS platforms.

• Participate in training and knowledge transfer activities to support continuity of project work and improve drafting workflows.
• Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams, contributing drafting expertise to geotechnical, environmental, and civil site projects.
• Adapt to changing project priorities, manage multiple assignments, and remain responsive to direction from project leads.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of drafting experience in civil, geotechnical, environmental, survey, or related consulting environments.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD for preparing and updating civil and geotechnical drawings.
• Experience working with GIS platforms and geospatial datasets.
• Understanding of civil site plans, mapping practices, and technical drafting standards.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to work independently while remaining responsive and engaged with project teams.
• Willingness to ask questions, take direction, learn new processes, and adapt to changing project priorities.
• Strong responsiveness and reliability in supporting project deadlines and production needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate degree in GIS, Drafting Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field, or at least 2 years of equivalent drafting experience.
• Experience supporting geotechnical or environmental consulting projects.
• Familiarity with Civil 3D for civil and site‑related drafting tasks.
• Experience with geodata management and mapping workflows.
• Exposure to MicroStation, gINT, Bentley/OpenGround, or similar industry software used in geotechnical and environmental projects.
• Interest in geology, environmental science, soils, or earth sciences, and a desire to apply that interest to technical drafting work.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, team‑oriented environment and contributing to shared project goals.

Work Environment

This role is based in an in‑office, collaborative consulting environment, typically with one or two days of flexibility as appropriate. You work closely with engineers, technical specialists, and marketing staff, using tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS platforms, and industry software including MicroStation, gINT, and Bentley/OpenGround. Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
