Job summary

Davis Bowen Friedel, Inc. (DBF) is seeking a self-motivated civil designer to support a range of infrastructure projects. The role includes reviewing drawings, assisting in preparation of construction documents, and applying knowledge of stormwater, water, wastewater, and roadway design.

The ideal candidate holds a 2- or 4-year civil engineering degree with at least two years of site design experience. Proficiency in CAD/design software is preferred; this is an in-person position with

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and permit projects using CAD and design software for water infrastructure, sanitary sewer, roadways, and stormwater management.
• Perform civil design analyses and calculations per project requirements.
• Prepare or assist in preparing correspondence, cost estimates and bid documents for clients.
• Conduct field activities, observe site conditions, and verify measurements within project areas.
• Incorporate survey data, project docs, and codes into designs; modify designs based on feedback.

Overview

At Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc. (DBF), Designers play an essential supporting role in the production of a variety of infrastructure designs. This group helps to enhance, maintain and protect the communities we work, live, and play in. In this role, we are looking for an individual who is self-motivated, driven, and reliable; one who will identify opportunities to improve the quality of work and services and participate in their implementation. This position will include reviewing technical drawings and assisting in the preparation of construction documents. The ideal candidate should have knowledge in stormwater, water, wastewater, and roadway design. Operating in both the public and private sectors, the ideal candidate would be aware of all local, state, and federal regulations as they relate to those areas.

Responsibilities

• Utilize design software, computer aided drafting, and other applicable tools to plan, design, and permit projects such as water infrastructure sanitary sewer infrastructure, roadway and streetscape improvements, and stormwater conveyance/management.
• Perform civil design analysis and calculations according to project requirements.
• Prepare and/or assist in preparation of correspondence, cost estimates and bid documents for clients.
• Perform field activities such as observing and recording existing field conditions and taking verifying measurements within project areas.
• Incorporate all information from surveys, project documentation, and jurisdiction codes into design.
• Use feedback to modify existing designs and develop solutions
• Provide timely technical assistance.

Education & Skills

The preferred candidate shall possess a two (2) or four (4) year degree in civil engineering, and a minimum of two (2) years’ experience with basic civil/site design, including grading and drainage, utilities and erosion design control for residential and commercial projects.
