Kids for the Future seeks a Civil Designer to support planning, design, and delivery of land development and site projects under a licensed engineer. You will prepare studies, drawings, cost estimates, permitting packages, and 3D site models using Civil 3D.

Qualifications

  • Proficient PC skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheets; AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency preferred.
  • English language skills: read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedures; communicate clearly and professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Under licensed professional engineer, prepares engineering studies, plans, specifications, evaluations, cost estimates, construction drawings, schedules, permitting, and assessments for various projects.
  • Works autonomously to create detailed dimensional drawings and site layouts, including building footprint, grading, utilities, drainage, and erosion control.
  • Develops 3D models using surfaces, alignments, profiles, and typical sections.
  • Calculates dimensions, area, and material quantities as needed.
  • Ensures designs meet client standards and regulations; participates in QC/QA.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Civil Designer role is responsible for supporting the planning, design, and delivery of land development and site development projects under the guidance of a licensed Professional Engineer. This position serves as a key contributor to the development of engineering solutions by preparing studies, plans, specifications, cost estimates, construction documents, permitting packages, and technical evaluations for a variety of projects. The role utilizes advanced design software to create detailed site layouts and 3D models, including grading, utility systems, drainage facilities, erosion control measures, transportation features, and other site development elements. The ideal candidate is a technically proficient, analytical, and self-motivated professional with strong communication and problem-solving skills, the ability to manage non-routine assignments with minimal supervision, and a commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions that meet client expectations, regulatory requirements, company safety standards, and project objectives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Under licensed professional engineer, p repares engineering studies, plans, specifications, evaluations, cost estimates, construction drawings, schedules, permitting, and assessments for a variety of engineering design projects, based on coordination with client, engineers, architects, and contractors.
  • Works somewhat autonomously to utilize computer software to create detailed dimensional drawings and design layouts for land development and site plans, including but not limited to building footprint, travel way, parking, grading, utility design, drainage facilities, and erosion control.
  • Develops 3D models of projects using surfaces, horizontal alignments, vertical profiles, typical sections, and various design criteria.
  • Calculates dimensions, square footage, profile and component specifications and material quantities using calculator or computer.
  • Ensures design products are complete, accurate, include the appropriate level of detail, align with client standards, and meet all relevant regulations and code requirements. Participates in and ensures QC/QA procedures are followed.
  • Occasionally partners directly with clients to form an understanding of and to define project scope, constraints, and design requirements, and provides support through construction completion.
  • May review work of others to check for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with clients’ specifications. R edlines production plans for correction prior to engineer design review.
  • Participates in internal and external project meetings as needed.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish non-routine tasks.
  • Provides support and assists others within the department as required.
  • Provides positive example to other team members of appearance, attitude, and behavior.
  • Participates in team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned .

Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum of three years related civil design/drafting experience. Associate’s degree (A.A.) in engineering studies or similar from two-year college or technical school preferred.
  • Knows and applies fundamental civil design concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc. AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency preferred.
  • English language skills: ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively communicate clear, concise verbal and written messages in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization in a professional manner.
  • Mathematical skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Reasoning skills: ability to clearly define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and provide an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Organizational skills: ability to prioritize and organize tasks; ability to effectively plan and schedule time to meet deadlines and commitments; ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Remote connectivity device (e.g., smart phone, tablet, etc.) with data plan sufficient for company requirements, including multi-factor authentication, time and mileage tracking, expense reimbursement, e-mail, and virtual communications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a primarily technical nature.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and using hands to finger, handle or feel.
  • Ability to sit and manipulate computer mouse up to eight hours per day.
  • Ability to see clearly 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more; ability to identify and distinguish colors; ability to judge distances and form spatial relationships.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work is primarily in well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office/production setting with adequate ventilation.
WORK SCHEDULE
  • Fixed schedule of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, including required core hours.
  • Occasional overtime required.
  • Eligible to submit applications for alternative schedule and/or telecommuting after 90 days.
