Job summary

Sunbelt Rentals seeks a Civil Design Engineer for the Trench & Shoring Division in Elkridge, MD. You will perform vital structural calculations and produce AutoCAD/REVIT drawings, bridging civil and geotechnical engineering under a PE-driven framework.

The role focuses on excavation, shoring, and earth retention projects, with mentorship from licensed engineers and hands-on field collaboration. A PE or EIT is desirable. On-site work in Elkridge, MD is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural/Geotechnical Engineering or closely related field.
• 3 to 5+ years of experience in structural engineering design, civil design, or construction engineering.
• Proficient with AutoCAD or REVIT, Excel, and structural/mathematical analysis tools like Mathcad.
• Strong foundational familiarity with mechanics of materials, structural analysis, and soil mechanics/geotechnical properties.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or licensed PE is desirable or the ability to obtain soon.
• Physical ability to bend, squat, reach, lift 50 lbs., and work in indoor/outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

• Prepare structural calculations and construction drawings under the direction of a Professional Engineer.
• Create accurate 2D/3D drawings in AutoCAD or REVIT in support of shoring equipment.
• Analyze geotechnical reports and project data to determine safe design parameters.
• Collaborate with customers, sales reps, and operations to solve jobsite challenges.
• Attend client meetings or visit sites to evaluate field conditions.
