Job summary

Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. is offering a civil construction internship to assist experienced estimators, surveyors, project engineers, managers, and superintendents.

You will gain broad exposure to preconstruction, surveying, project management, and field operations while developing a comprehensive understanding of the heavy civil lifecycle. This hourly, non-exempt internship provides direct supervision and hands-on practice in planning, estimating, surveying, and administration for heavy highway

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Pursuing Associate's or Bachelor's in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technology, Surveying Technology, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Assist with reports, correspondence, project documentation, bid packages, and other documents.
• Review plans, specs, drawings, and contract documents.
• Perform quantity takeoffs using estimating software and project plans.
• Research material pricing, subcontractor quotes, productivity data, and historical info.
• Assist with estimates, change orders, progress payments, and related docs.
• Support project scheduling and maintain schedules.
• Assist with shop drawing and submittal review and processing.
• Coordinate project documentation and maintain files.
• Participate in project meetings and communicate with stakeholders.
• Gain exposure to PennDOT ECMS processes and construction docs.
• Observe and assist with coordination, contract administration, and field ops.
• Assist survey crews with layout, staking, grade verification, and field measurements.
• Record survey notes and project data.
