Job Purpose: The Civil Construction Laborer is responsible for performing various tasks to aid daily operations
at a construction site.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Two (2) to three (3) years of experience using construction tools, skid steers, front-end loaders, dozers, graders, excavators, and other pieces of heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of site or civil or concrete construction.
- Must be able to identify utility lines.
- Direct traffic when necessary to ensure safety of pedestrians, motorists and work crew.
- Knowledge of signals used to signal operators of construction machinery.
- Backfill trenches and pits when necessary.
- Maintain a safe and clean job site by handling materials and storing them properly.
- Pick up and remove all tools and equipment when not in use.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools.
- Remove and properly dispose of debris and waste materials.
- Knowledge of equipment cleaning standards and procedures.
- Working knowledge of site and/or sewer/water and/or concrete construction.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work successfully with a wide variety of people at different levels within the organization and public.
- Ability to work various schedules including nights/weekends and travel locally.
- Shovel materials to and from construction areas, including asphalt, dirt, and concrete.
- Travel to and work on remote job sites as directed.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies & procedures.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Knowledge of local safety guidelines for construction job sites.
Education, Skills and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Previous experience required.
- Comfortable working in a team environment.
- Experience using heavy equipment.
- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- A valid driver's license.
- Display a willing attitude to learn from others and possess a strong sense of personal responsibility.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for a prolonged period of time.
- Willing to work in the elements in all weather conditions.
- GED or High School Diploma.
- Required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to fingers, handle, or feel.
- May be required to move up to 100 pounds.
