Job summary

City of Hoover is seeking a qualified civil construction inspector to oversee soil placement, sewer and drainage system inspections, and quality control for city projects. The role requires a high school diploma or GED with 5+ years of field experience, or an associate degree with 3+ years in civil construction, plus ADEM QCI certification or ability to obtain within six months.

A valid driver’s license and Hoover Driver’s Permit are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 5+ years civil construction experience in roles such as engineering technician, superintendent, foreman, or related field; OR
• Associate’s Degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Civil Construction, or a related field with 3+ years civil construction experience in similar roles.

Responsibilities

• Observes soil fill placement and elevations; Inspects gravity flow and force main sanitary sewer systems; Inspects storm water sewer systems and concrete forms for line and grade; Oversees testing and quality control of soil, concrete, and asphalt; Monitors road base and asphalt binder installations; Reviews contractor permits and licenses for compliance; Maintains inspection records and prepares reports and notices as required; Communicates with Citizens and departments to resolve issues.
