Turner Industries is seeking an experienced Civil Carpenter for work in the Baton Rouge, LA area. The role involves constructing, erecting, installing, fabricating, dismantling and repairing wooden and metal formwork and fixtures, interpreting drawings and grade specifications to lay out work accurately.

Qualifications

  • High school or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of experience in heavy civil or commercial construction carpentry and concrete finishing.
  • Skilled at using hand tools, power saws, levels, and measuring devices.
  • NCCER certification may be required at some job sites.
  • Post offer drug / alcohol screen, physical evaluation, and signed acceptance of the Turner Industries Drug, Alcohol and Contraband Policy.
  • Comply with company and client job site safety requirements.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Studies blueprints, sketches or structural plans for information pertaining to materials and dimensions.
  • Selects lumber and materials; prepares layouts; marks cutting lines; shapes materials to specified measurements.
  • Erects framework for structures and lays sub-flooring; builds stairs and installs finish hardware.
  • Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete; erects scaffolding and ladders as needed.
  • Fabricates from work and transports to job site per drawings; places and finishes concrete in formwork.

Turner Industries Group is looking for experienced Civil Carpenter for work in the Baton Rouge, LA area. This position constructs, erects, installs, fabricates, dismantles and repairs structures, formwork and fixtures of wood, metal forms and associated accessories, and interpret project drawings, blueprints, and grade specifications to lay out work accurately.

Functional Requirements

Studies blueprints, sketches or structural plans for information pertaining to the type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated; selects specified types of lumber or other materials; prepares layouts including lines and grades; marks cutting and assembly lines on materials; shapes materials to prescribed measurements; assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together; erects framework for structures and lays sub-flooring; builds stairs and lays out and installs partitions and cabinet work; covers sub-floor with building paper to keep out moisture and lays hardwood, parquet and wood-strip-block floors; fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, door frames, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware such as locks, letter drops and kick plates; constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete; erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures below ground, at ground level or above ground level; fabricates from work then loads, hauls, and carries it to the job site and installs per drawings, sketches or plans; places and finishes concrete in formwork and sets and aligns form panels; sets grout forms for epoxy and cement grout.

Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

Physical Involvement

May be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.; reaching in all directions; handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing / sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction; wearing respirator and other PPE; typing /data entry; stepstool use; work in excessive heat; work in excessive cold; work in loud environment.
