Job summary

Langan Engineering & Environmental Services is seeking a Civil CAD Technician to join its team in Milwaukee, WI; Cleveland, OH and Pittsburgh, PA. You will assist in planning, design, and permitting of civil engineering and land development projects, including mixed-use developments, shopping centers, and higher education facilities.

The role offers hands-on experience in site/civil design, collaboration across offices, and opportunities for growth within a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology preferred.
• 1+ years’ experience in Site/Civil design, including site planning.
• Familiarity with local, state, and federal land use permitting.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Ability to multi‑task and work well individually or in teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Occasional travel to project sites and client locations; valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation and modification of engineering documents including due diligence assessments, reports, specifications, plans, schedules, cost estimates and design plans using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and related software;
• Evaluate soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and geologic data for planning and design;
• Perform zoning, ordinance and permit assessments and prepare concept plans and site test-fits;
• Attend client and team meetings with project personnel;
• Collaborate with team members across offices and disciplines;
• Perform other duties as requested.

Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Civil CAD Technician to join its collaborative team in Milwaukee, WI; Cleveland, OH and Pittsburgh, PA. This individual will serve a key function in assisting with the planning, design and permitting of civil engineering and land development infrastructure projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in site/civil engineering design for mixed‑use developments, shopping centers, residential, higher education, federal, and other exciting land development projects in a continuous learning environment.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation and modification of various engineering documents including due diligence assessments, reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates and design plans for projects using engineering and design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.) and equipment;
• Effectively use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to assess soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data and their impact on the planning and design of projects;
• Perform zoning, ordinance and permit assessments, determine the feasibility of projects based on the analysis of collected data, and prepare concept plans and site test‑fits using tenant‑specific criteria;
• Attend client and team meetings with project personnel;
• Collaborate with team members on project tasks and assignments. Assist other work groups across offices and disciplines on an as‑needed basis;
• Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent. Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, or related field preferred;
• 1+ years’ experience in Site/Civil design, including site planning;
• Familiarity with current local, state, and federal land use permitting;
• Familiarity with AutoCAD preferred;
• Strong attention to detail;
• Ability to multi‑task effectively and excellent analytical and judgment capabilities;
• Ability to work well individually and within groups;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Occasional travel to project sites and/or client locations, as required; and
• Possess a valid driver’s license in good standing.
