Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Civil CAD Technician in Indianapolis, IN to support producing municipal water and wastewater infrastructure drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D. The role involves creating 2D and 3D plan sets, drafting sheets and details, and assisting with quantity take-offs while collaborating with engineers and project managers.

The position is office-based with occasional field verification, a 7:00–5:00 schedule, and growth opportunities within a busy design team.

Job Title: Civil CAD Technician

Job Description

The CAD Designer will work closely with Civil Project Engineers and Project Managers to support the production of construction drawings for municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on production drafting role focused on generating high-quality plan sets and design documents using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

• Produce 2D and 3D civil construction drawings.
• Draft plan sheets, profiles, and details in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Prepare report figures and design exhibits.
• Assist with quantity take-offs.
• Support senior engineers with design activities and project coordination.
• Engage in occasional fieldwork or site verification as needed.
• Contribute to a positive, collaborative drafting environment.

Essential Skills

• Experience using Civil 3D in a professional setting (2+ years).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Experience preparing, drafting, and designing civil construction plans.
• Knowledge in civil design, civil drawing, AutoCAD Civil 3D, drainage, grading, land development, site development, water & wastewater, water treatment, wastewater treatment, and roadway design.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior experience with water and wastewater infrastructure.
• Experience with municipal clients or public-sector design.
• Associates Degree in Drafting & Design Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field.
• Ability to create pipe networks, alignments, and surfaces using Civil 3D.

Work Environment

This role involves primarily office-based production drafting with occasional field tasks. The standard workweek is Monday through Thursday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with an alternative option of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. The average workweek is 44-45 hours. The design department includes around 20 CAD professionals, with a focus on training and development in an in-demand, niche skill set. The position offers a mix of office work and occasional field visits for site measurements and verifications.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.50 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
